Continuing on in the Bible story, we talked about the census. Eli and I colored rice that we put in a baby food jar to show the many, many people that had to travel to Bethlehem. We also included buttons with faces drawn on them to represent Mary and Joseph- they were just two people in a crowd, but they were very special!
Next, we talked about the stable (and how it isn't actually mentioned in the Bible). Eli picked out some sticks from outside to make his stable.
Then we made salt dough and formed the manger with baby Jesus in it. We did this one on a weekend, so Jason got to help!
We had to let the ornament cool, and we ended up painting it a different day.
Then we made sheep! This one was fun because Eli played a shepherd in his school program!
Next were the swaddling clothes- important because that's how the shepherds would recognize baby Jesus when they went looking for him.
And then we made a group of "angels" (ours were pretty colorful because I didn't have white feathers!)
