Truth in the Tinsel, Part 1

I got the book Truth in the Tinsel last year before Christmas, but Eli was a little too young and I wasn't prepared. This year, I was determined to do a better job! I love this book because it tells the whole story of Christmas straight from the Bible, and includes a small, easy craft each day to help little ones remember the main parts of the story. It took us a few days to get into a groove, but then we were on a role and Eli loved it! I would read the Bible story to him while he ate breakfast and give him his "ticket"- a clue that had the main idea for the day. Then, after lunch we would work on the craft together. After the first few days Eli would ask me, "What project are we doing today??"

The first day was a candle, and we talked about how Jesus was the light of the world. Before He came, our world was in darkness because of sin.

Day 2 discussed Jesus as the coming king, and we made a crown to show his kingship.

The next day, we discussed Zechariah, who didn't believe the angel when he was told that he and Elizabeth would have a baby (John the Baptist) in their old age. We used a bubble from bubble wrap to show that he was unable to speak until the baby was born, then we popped the bubble!

Next we made Mary, and talked about how unlike Zechariah, Mary believed the angel that brought her news.

Mary and Elizabeth were next, and we talked about their visit and how the baby inside Elizabeth jumped for joy when he heard Mary's greeting. This one was fun to talk about since we've been discussing babies so much lately!

Next we made a pillow to show that Joseph was visited by an angel while he was sleeping.

And then we talked about Bethlehem, and why Mary and Joseph had to go there.

I think Eli is going to understand the story so much better using this tool! We're having fun doing the projects, and he's learning about Jesus at the same time. What could be better?
