New House Progress

We finally--FINALLY-- got posession of our new house on June 19th! We were supposed to get the keys on Thursday night, but we waited and waited and they never came by. Jason finally got a call that they needed until noon the next day, then noon came and went and they were still working. We finally asked if we could just come over and get started cleaning. WHAT A DISASTER!! When we arrived they were literally throwing clothes into the top of a jam packed U-Haul trailer with no rhyme or reason as to what they were doing. It was insane! The basement was still full of junk, and there was furniture in literally every room of the house... most of which they just left behind for us to deal with. We had agreed to manage some of their leftover furniture, but the amount of stuff they left behind was way, way beyond the scope of what we'd agreed to!

Shane and Julie came over that first evening and helped us clean- the guys spent most of the time just moving furniture and junk out of the house, while Julie stripped wallpaper border and I attempted to clean the bathrooms. Just the half bath took me THREE HOURS to clean sufficiently. I've never seen home bathrooms so disgusting before. The whole process of taking over the house was very overwhelming... there were many, many moments of wondering what we got ourselves into with this place!

Within the first week of having possession, we stripped wallpaper border from all the rooms upstairs and repainted all of it. We painted a wall in the living room. We had all the carpets cleaned, and I cleaned all the cupboards in the kitchen to begin moving things in. The bathrooms felt like they would never ever be clean, but after many hours of scrubbing and soaking, we finally feel like they are usable! After our nightmare experience moving in February, Jason and I decided to budget money to hire movers, and our official move-in day happened on June 26. We had rather yucky weather for this move as well, as it started raining partway through the day, so we were thankful for the hired hands. It was an exhausting day, but Jason and I were happy to stay our first night that night. The boys came home the next day for their first night in the new house. We were a little afraid of what the adjustment process would entail for the boys, but they both slept great their first night! I think it helps them to know that Mommy and Daddy are just a couple steps away (instead of being downstairs like at the old house). The boys love, love, love the new place- which makes it an easier transition all around!

This is just a portion of the furniture and stuff that was left behind at this house- some of our old things are mixed in too, plus we had furniture still in a storage unit. I sold a lot of the extras by using Facebook, and we were able to earn over $1500 with everything we sold. It was hilarious though- here we were with a garage literally stuffed with furniture, and we had no furniture at all in our living room for the first several weeks!

Carter's first visit to the house- The guys were working on some repairs to sinks, etc so the boys watched a movie on the portable DVD player while we worked on various jobs! We have a long, long way to go when it comes to home improvement projects... but thankfully we have all the time we need!
