The new house has been full of surprises! We knew the stove was an original and would need replaced, but according to the inspection, everything was working on it. However, once we moved in, we noticed a really strong gas smell each time we used it. As in, we had to open a bunch of windows the smell was so overpowering! Needless to say we used it as little as possible and ordered a new range immediately!
A week later when they delivered the new range, we got an even bigger- and scarier- surprise. After shutting off the gas valve and removing the old hose, gas started spewing into the house! Thankfully the delivery guy knew what he was doing and quickly plugged it while he retrieved a cap to shut it off. He told me to call a plumber--immediately! Turns out that the valve was broken and had been leaking, so we had to have the valve replaced. Thank goodness we didn't wait to replace the stove!
We got a new refrigerator at the same time. The old one had a random bowl of ice in the fridge...we thought it was strange, but threw it out. Come to find out, when the ice maker ran, water would pour from the freezer into the fridge, so they kept the bowl there to catch it... and then it would freeze...in the refrigerator. Something about that is backwards, right?!? We've been completely dumbfounded that the previous owners lived with things the way they were. To each their own, but I prefer appliances that actually work and aren't potentially going to kill us through gas leaks!
So when our appliances were delivered, the gas range had to wait for the plumber to finish the valve job, and the refrigerator sat in the middle of the kitchen for a couple days until Jason and a friend could cut away part of the cabinet so it would fit. Nothing has been easy here!! But once everything was settled, the new appliances are SO nice!
