This was our third year doing Truth in the Tinsel. It is the best way to get kids ready for Christmas I have ever seen, and I am so thankful to the author, Amanda White, for making this available (www.truthinthetinsel.com). It has truly helped Eli learn the real meaning of Christmas.
The first year he was only 2 years old, so we only did the basics. Last year I scrambled around to get all the materials and we got through most of it before Christmas, but had to finish a few after the holidays were over. This year I was much more prepared and got everything ready ahead of time (which I highly recommend!) It made it so much easier to get the activity done each day. Eli looked forward to his "projects" each day, and we got Dad involved this year too! Jason read the Bible stories each night before bed, and Eli and I would do the coordinating activity the next day. This year I also found an awesome advent calendar in which to put his "clues" for each day, and we had a small Christmas tree upstairs to display the ornaments.
We didn't get pictures of each day, but this is a sampling! This year we were able to complete 22 of the 24 days before Christmas, and we talked about the others to finish out. Next year I promise we will get ALL of them done!
Eli really knows the story by now. He asked if we could sit next to his tree on Christmas morning as we read from the Bible so he could point out all of the ornaments as they came up in the story. And, when we packed everything away, he went through each ornament and told me what it meant- I love that he is understanding so well!
