Blessings

So, yesterday I was able to do devotions for the first time in about two weeks! It was a good day! I was reading in Ecclesiastes 4, about how life is meaningless if we have no one to share it with. Without others to share our lives with, not only are we working for nothing, but we are actually in a precarious position.

"Two people can accomplish more than twice as much as one: they get a better
return for their labor. If one person falls, the other can reach out and
help. But people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble. ... A
person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand
back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord
is not easily broken."
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, 12. (NLT)

I was thinking on this passage during the day yesterday, and realized once again how blessed I am with my family and friends. The first several weeks of Eli's life were incredibly challenging for me... much more so than I would have ever guessed! After a long, exhausting pregnancy I went one week past my due date, then needed a C-section. A couple weeks later we realized Eli was having some feeding issues that were really stressful for me, and on top of it all, I developed post-partum depression. Through it all, I've had my amazing husband standing "back-to-back" with me helping me to conquer! Our families have also been so helpful... I never thought I would be so thankful to live in Lima! While there are sure to be more struggles to come, this storm has passed and we are loving life again! The Hays/Haver families are a wonderful example of that triple-braided cord that WILL NOT be broken, and no matter what hard times come our way, we will conquer!

Last night, my parents came over to bring Jason their tiller to get our garden ready. I snapped a few pictures of Eli with his Grammy and Papaw while Jason was working. Eli seemed to like being outside, even though it was a little chilly. He really liked looking at the trees with Papaw!

Today we have a doctor appointment for Eli and he'll get his first shots :( Poor baby doesn't know what's coming! Pray for us... hopefully it won't be too traumatic for him (or his parents!).

The first set of shots is always the hardest with each kid. You just don't know how they will react. Ellie didn't cry, Silas screamed for a moment and then was fine. A trick I have learned was to give a little tylenol about 15 minutes before the appointment time. It has some time to kick in about the time they get the shots. They don't remember getting the shots so the hurt feelings and such only last for a moment. I think it's harder on mommy and daddy. And don't be alarmed if he sleeps all day after getting shots. Ellie always slept all day and had a small fever when getting shots. Now Silas, he didn't sleep at all. It's funny how differently they react. Good luck today!
