Leading up to Easter, we talked with Eli about the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection using Family Life’s “Resurrection Eggs”. Eli was so excited to open a new egg each day, see the token inside, and learn what it meant to the Easter story. We also made “resurrection rolls” with marshmallows and crescent rolls- you dip the marshmallows in butter and cinnamon then wrap them in the rolls, comparing it to the way Jesus’ body was covered in oil and spices and wrapped in cloth before being put in the tomb (oven). Once the rolls are baked, the marshmallow disappears, and the rolls are empty- just like Jesus’ tomb! Eli kept asking, “where did it go??” I know he absorbed at least part of the story, because the day after Easter we were driving, and Eli piped up from the backseat. “Jesus stayed in there for 2 days, and then I helped him roll that stone away because I’m a strong guy!” I had to stifle my laughter and explain that while he is very strong, Jesus didn’t need any help rolling the stone away!

Easter 2012
We enjoyed the traditional Easter service at our new church (Shawnee Alliance Church, where we’ve been attending since January) with Mom and Dad. Jeremiah and Angie joined us at Poverty Knob later in the day to celebrate, and we got to spend a few hours with the Hays family too!
