We'll miss you, Grandma Haver

Shortly after my last post, Grandma Haver had another major stroke while at the nursing home. On September 2, at 11:10 pm, she went home to be with the Lord. She was 93 years old. Below is her obituary:

Mary E. Haver

Lima - Mary E. Haver, 93, died at 11:10 p.m. Sept. 2, 2010 at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born July 11, 1917 in Spencerville to Joseph and Anna Thiesing Rigdon, who preceded her in death. She was married on Nov. 18, 1936 to George Stanley Haver, who preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1980.

Mrs. Haver was a Christian homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the First Church of God, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and participated in countless programs. She was a 25-year volunteer for the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District.

Survivors include: one son, Kevin L. (Terri) Haver, of Lima; one daughter, Joyce (Gerald Welch) Haver, of Monroe, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Michael, Joe and Steven Haver; a daughter, Janet Haver; and nine brothers and sisters.

Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Shawnee Chapel. Pastor Randy Bargerstock will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of God at the Crossroads or the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District Memorial Tree Fund.


Praise God that Grandma is now in heaven, in a restored body, speaking clearly! We will miss her dearly, but we are thankful for the many moments she shared in our lives!
